Immersive Theatre Experience
Scene2’s Solution
Design & Production Support
Working closely with the wider production team, Scene2 translated the scenic design into a buildable reality, developing practical installation methodologies and coordinating delivery across the full venue footprint.
Workshop & Fabrication
The project required the fabrication and assembly of a series of large-scale hexagonal scenic structures that became defining features of the environment.
In total, the installation utilised approximately 4 kilometres of timber, demonstrating both the scale and complexity of the build. Our fabrication team focused on delivering robust, high-quality scenic construction capable of meeting the demands of a long-running immersive production.
Installation & Delivery
Scene2 deployed an experienced on-site team for a twelve-week installation programme, coordinating works across the entire warehouse space.
The team managed complex logistics, sequencing and access requirements while working safely at height throughout the project. Through careful planning and execution, the scenic installation was delivered successfully and on schedule, ready for rehearsals and public opening.
Health and safety remained a key priority throughout the build, with rigorous procedures in place to support the scale and technical requirements of the installation.
Project Overview
Storehouse was an ambitious, large-scale immersive theatre experience created by Sage & Jester, running from June to September 2025 within 9,000 square metres of converted warehouse space in Deptford, an area equivalent to approximately two football pitches.
Set within a richly imagined fictional world, the production invited audiences to explore themes of fake news, digital information, data ownership and the increasingly fragile nature of truth. At the centre of the story was a secret global archive containing forty-two years of humanity’s collective searches, posts, messages and memories, alongside the mystery of a revolutionary truth algorithm that never came to fruition.
The production featured an exceptional cast of recorded and live performances, including Toby Jones, Meera Syal, Kathryn Hunter and Billy Howle, supported by an ensemble of more than a dozen performers. The scale of the experience demanded an equally ambitious physical environment capable of immersing audiences within the story world.
Scene2 was appointed to deliver the build and installation of the show’s major scenic elements, working onsite for twelve weeks to realise the production’s extraordinary design vision. Although not involved in the creative narrative or direction of the production, our team played a key role in transforming an industrial warehouse into a fully realised immersive environment capable of supporting the experience at an unprecedented scale.
Challenges We Overcame
Scale of Installation
Storehouse occupied an enormous 9,000-square-metre warehouse footprint, requiring the coordination and installation of scenic elements across a vast site. Maintaining accuracy, consistency and build quality across such a large area presented logistical and operational challenges to overcome.
Complex Structural Build
The production design centred around a series of monumental hexagonal structures installed throughout the venue. These large-scale scenic elements required careful planning, precise fabrication and coordinated installation to ensure structural integrity and alignment with the creative vision.
Working at Height
A portion of the installation programme involved working at height across the warehouse environment. This required detailed planning, specialist access equipment and rigorous health and safety procedures throughout the twelve-week installation period.
