DISPLAY DESIGN IS SET TO SAVE THE HIGH STREET

susan@scene2.co.uk - November 2020

“As towns & cities face the prospect of re-opening, once again, ahead of Christmas, the importance of stunning display design has never been more important” – Andy Dixon CEO – Scene2 Ltd

Andy Dixon – CEO & Creative Director at award winning theatrical & immersive production company Scene2 Ltd, shares his 5 top tips ahead of December 2020.

#1 Storytelling to promote towns, cities & local business

Local businesses who are struggling, form the life blood of our high streets & town centres.  They have shown resilience and have adapted quickly offering take-way services, online shopping options & opportunities for us all to meet outside.

They need support to share their good news and activity with the public and this is best done through storytelling.

Telling the human stories of our places will bring people together.

High streets & town/city centres have a wealth of places where people can share their stories through window displays, building wraps & giant poster sites.

#2 Stunning Displays to brighten the Dark Days

Bold colour & illuminated creativity is already adding a burst of life to high streets & town centres, just when everyone needs it most.

High Street & town centre street level decorations are even more important to keeping the festive spirit alive this year.  The shorter daylight days provide the perfect backdrop for a spectacular explosion of lights and colour.  What better way to welcome shoppers back!

#3 Wonderous Window Displays

With social distancing not going away anytime soon, the last thing businesses will need when they are able to open their doors is the inevitable limiting numbers to enter the store.

Window displays have always been the filter to the outside world for brands and businesses.  Traditionally used to entice shoppers inside, window display has faced new design challenges this year in having to providing clear messaging and refreshed ideas to address new shopping behaviours.

In the event of a relaxation of restrictions, people may well still be wary of being in crowds & entering stores again so its down to the best in window displays to fill the gaps & reassure shoppers that “we all share the same dreams!”

#4 Design & Centre Management Collaboration

Collaborating early on ideas this year has proven that even with the sudden Lockdown#2, we will have designs finished and ready to go once businesses are allowed to open once again.

This has been down to the tenacity of our clients, who have recognised that we all need to work together to be ready to help restore confidence in being out in public in our town & city centres.

#5 Creativity on a Giant Scale

Keeping a distance goes hand in hand with creative ideas on a giant scale.  Whether it be the giant decorations in Carnaby Street or a giant Elf on the Shelf in Manchester, the temptation may be to make everyone feel that, the moment doors reopen, everything is back to normal in the run up to Christmas.

With social distancing that won’t be the case and standing back has to become the new normal if we are to avoid a Lockdown#3 in 2021.

Safety of everyone – ourselves and others – is paramount but positivity should remain.

The creative world thrives on challenge.  These are challenging times, especially if people start to feel comfortable again and restrictions are reduced.

So, with positivity through creativity, stunning displays, collaborative working & creative solutions are set to save the high street this Christmas!
