Case Study – Charities – World Vision
immersive storytelling, experiential marketing campaigns, PR stunts
The Brief
Having previously created & achieved success with the long-running experiential campaign “Journey of Hope”, children’s charity World Vision engaged Scene2 to design and build an expansion to their campaign.

A new immersive experience was required to further increase the awareness of the charity and increase the number of child sponsorship sign-ups.
The experience had to be engaging, immersive and modular to fit a variety of UK indoor and outdoor venue sizes. The structures had to face the challenges of fire regulations and withstand the British weather.
The Final Design
A village of buildings, inspired by the real world, in rural Sierra Leone.
This collection of structures encapsulated the hardship of living in a Sierra Leone community.
Each intriguing building emulated fragile living conditions whilst telling individual stories of the hope experienced by children as their lives improve through the intervention of World Vision.
Village of Hope is inspired by a 12-year-old girl called Isata who lives in Sierra Leone. This immersive experience brings her story to life.

Based on actual structures found in Sierra Leone and designed with close attention to detail, this modular village forms a community kit of parts:
A “before” home – before World Vision intervention, an “after” home – after World Vision intervention, a school classroom & an interactive VR shack.

The telling of Isata’s story can be deployed across a range of venues around the UK at multiple times in multiple places.
For example, 2 huts can be found inside a shopping centre in North London whilst 3 huts can be experienced at a festival on the south coast at the same time.
Not forgetting that “Village of Hope” tours at the same time as the separate “Journey of Hope” activation. This means that the World Vision campaign & Isata’s story is in action for a whole 12 months of each year.
Journey of Hope – Village of Hope – Story of Hope

The Results
Scene2 brought Isata’s story to life in a really vivid and creative way by creating the feel of her village with different buildings like a tin shack styled on the local classroom, a mud hut representing the home Isata once lived in to sit alongside the new concrete clad home with a tin roof which shows the home she has now. People now have the opportunity to really see, feel and hear Isata’s story and truly understand how they can make a difference
